Our Underwater Backyard

My Edmonds News is publishing monthly stories and photographs from the Edmonds Underwater Park, with features written by members of the youth Dive Team led by Annie Crawley.

March’s article is “Our Underwater Backyard: ‘I speak up for the ocean because it gives us life’” by Santiago Ramirez. This well illustrated article is a good introduction for any of you who have not explored underwater at Edmonds. It is also a nicely written, armchair re-visit for those of us who have spent time there.

The personal, experiential tone of the article makes it very inviting, and Santiago’s reflections on the importance of the ocean and threats to it add a “big picture” dimension to the article.

I found it a real joy to know that articles like this are being written and published.

In the photo (by Annie Crawley), Santiago is holding a recently published book, Planet Ocean: Why We All Need a Healthy Ocean with photos also by Annie Crawley.

A review of this book is in the works…

I highly recommend Homewaters — for the way it introduces the components of the Puget Sound ecosystem, but especially for how it weaves the various parts together.
