Swim along with a Giant Pacific Octopus being returned to Puget Sound. This was filmed by the Marine Science & Technology Center, Highline Community College, and I’ll let them tell the story:
We collect and study a few of the local Puget Sound Octopuses a few times during the year. On November 10 2012, we released “Squirt” back to the marine waters of western Washington State. The name was selected through a Facebook naming contest. When captured this past June, this animal was about 3ft across. She is now almost 8.5 feet. These are amazing creatures. They learn by watching and through interaction. Some studies have shown the possibility that octopuses can tell the difference between people who have worked with them. We are honored to have the opportunity to work and learn from these fascinating animals.
