Seven years ago, SEA-Media launched our first big project: this web site that is dedicated to calling attention to some of the great media about a seriously marginalized yet essential part of our Pacific Northwest ecosystem: our marine waters. During that time we have highlighted books, movies, photographs, radio stories, a barn painting, and even some digital games that are relevant to our mission.
Now, in 2018 we are making two big changes. First, we are expanding our criteria to recognize the importance of the terrestrial world both to our marine world and to our psyches. You can read more about this topic in my recent blog.
Second, SEA-Media will begin publishing media, not just reviewing it. The vessel for our publications will be a digital, multi-media magazine. This magazine will be available by subscription and delivered online. Highlighting our new acceptance of humans’ connection to things that they can see in real life, the magazine will have a companion mobile app. When subscribers are exploring some of the outdoor public spaces around Puget Sound, the app can alert them when they are near a landmark that illustrates something discussed in the magazine — it will be like a virtual interpretive sign. This project will be using 21st century technology to enrich peoples’ explorations of our local ecosystems.
Enough words…check out our embryonic PROMOTIONAL WEB SITE.
